Dave and Mike weren’t expecting their Craigslist ad for dates to a wedding to go viral, but it did. The two New York brothers were told to bring dates to their cousin’s wedding, and rather than harass friends to accompany them, the two decided to place an ad on Craigslist. But they were more charming than they knew.
Over 800 responses later, the two are struggling to sort through all of them. Their quirky ad received pictures, PowerPoint presentations, fliers, and PDFs from far more women than they ever dreamed. And though they’re having fun with the ordeal, they want to make sure things stay under control.
“The bottom line is that this is my cousin’s wedding,” said Dave. “We don’t really want to make a circus out of it.”
A read-through of the ad shows just how full of personality the two are:
“We’ve been told by the bride that bringing dates is ‘mandatory’ so we ‘won’t harass all of my friends all night’ and ‘stay under control,’” the ad states. “Rather than ask some fringe women in our lives to go and face the inevitable ‘does this mean he wants to take it to the next level!?’ questions, we’d rather bring complete strangers and just figure it out.”
The list off reasons for women to attend the wedding, which includes getting dressed up, having access to an open bar and food all night, adventure, mystery, and (the winner) “eccentric/downright dangerous bro-2-bro dance moves.”
The pictures for the ad are no disappointment, either. The main photo features a background of the U.S. Constitution with two centaurs in the foreground—of course with the brothers’ heads superimposed on them. Another shows some good old beach fun, and a third depicts the two at Christmas in some goofy looking sweaters.
No word yet on how the bride feels about all the shenanigans, but we’re betting she’s hoping the two will live up to their word and not make a circus out of the big day. Who knows, maybe the two winners will turn out to be the perfect dates.
